Ask a baker if she is baking her own wedding cake and she will look at you like you’re mad. Ask a wedding planner if she intends to plan her own wedding and she will think you’re insane. So, we got wiser to never ask a florist if she is doing her own wedding flowers. Who do we ask then? Read on to find out!
For the uninitiated, Linnette (of @floralmagic_) and Keith who shared with us their sentiments on their wedding plans last September had tied the knot as planned on 16 Jan 2021; a day they now share with both sets of parents who got married on 16 Jan 1988!
Linnette comes from a family of florists who fronts one of our favourite local floral boutiques, floralmagic. With generations of experience, the team is known to breathe new life into every space they style and every bouquet they fashion.
So, you can only imagine how much we were looking forward to seeing the floral creations especially when they’re celebrating one of their own. For those who already are fans of their work, like us, you probably have been eagerly following #whenafloristweds on your IG. We weren’t let in on much because Linnette herself was also kept in the dark!
My elder sister Jo took care of everything décor related, and somehow managed to keep everything a secret. I had no idea what my flowers were going to be like until the doors opened.
Linnette
Now that…is floral magic isn’t it? We totally see why this became one of the most memorable part of the wedding for Linette as she recalled “seeing the décor for the first time, and crying”.
It is all because of Jo, whom by now you probably could guess is the person we turned to, to find out all about the flowers at Linnette’s wedding. So, if you’re also wondering what the inspiration behind the floral concept was, we got you!
Linnette had lots of pictures that she pinned, but the two things that she kept reminding me about were 1 – she wants lots of spirea, 2 – she wants her bridal bouquet(s) to be wide. Also, I know that she likes things extraaaaaaaa.
Jo
Now if you could all recall, Linnette and Keith had a jaw-dropping (slash super extra :P) setup for their pre-wedding shoot that looked as if they just stepped through the door to Narnia. Unbeknownst to us, the setup was in fact a testing ground for Jo as she discreetly worked towards putting her vision into reality –
The overall look I wanted to achieve was something of an overgrown otherworldliness. the mood board had more pictures of gardens and parks than there were of wedding floral decorations. Her pre wedding shoot was the mock-up and the set up at Raffles Hotel, the real deal.

Let us guess, now you wish you had a sister like Jo don’t you? Lucky for Linnette, besides being an amazing florist and sister, Jo is also an amazing everything that Linnette has been extremely grateful for!
I am so lucky to have her as my sister, colleague, mentor, everything!!
Linnette
This special and deep bond is not only shared between the sisters, as Phillane (of Med Kärlek Inc.) had witnessed how it runs through the entire extended family. Phillane had attended Linette’s wedding as a guest, a fellow wedding creative and a friend. Witnessing Linnette’s journey has been super heart-warming for her but what struck her most was…
Her (Linnette’s) family. The love between the sisters, the parents, cousins, aunts really made an impact. Their love for each other didn’t need words, just a whole lot of actions and effort. You could feel the love they have for each other just by watching how they interact with one another. The whole wedding, besides the amazing floral designs, her family’s love for each other and for the couple made me want to be a better daughter and sister.
Phillane
Now we know what all this magic is built upon – a common unit of strength as la familia. As it turns out, Jo had everyone a part to play for the wedding day and it instantly became the very thing that made this wedding so much more special and meaningful!
All the dining table arrangements were different. Everyone on the team got to create 3-4 designs, whatever they liked as long as it fits the colour theme and used the same wooden base. I thought it was too much stress for them but they really enjoyed the opportunity to have fun designing and executing, as if submitting it for an exhibition and being graded by Linnette hahaha

Aren’t you awed by these creations? Floral foams are also not used in these setups and is definitely the way forward as the industry seeks to celebrate in a more sustainable way.
And when we talk about being forward-looking, perhaps no one does it better than Linnette who had the foresight right from the beginning. Much like how she had advised couples to see long term and “focus on the marriage” when her wedding plans was disrupted by COVID-19, she had, the first time they met, straight up asked Keith an even “longer-term” question –
The first time we were introduced was in a club at a friend’s 18th birthday, and the first thing I said to him was, “do you wanna share a graveyard?” I used this line again in my thank you speech, and brought out the drink as a surprise!
Linnette
Linnette might have “known” the end right from the start, yet she still couldn’t control her tears when she walked down the aisle.
Seeing Keith at the end of the aisle…I was trying to fight back tears. Nothing else mattered, it was tunnel vision between us.
Linnette
You would think most grooms teared the first time they laid eyes on the bride in her wedding gown because of how gorgeous she looked? Well, what Linnette and Keith shared is priceless! But let us also take a moment to appreciate how amazing the couple’s wedding attire was! And according to Linnette, it was all Samuel and Julianne of In Personam Custom Clothiers –
We left all our outfits to Samuel and Julianne and trusted them wholly to it. Like any girl, I struggle with my body. Throughout the dress making process, Jules helped me love myself in a way that I never thought I could. I didn’t even wear shapewear underneath anything!

Now, we wonder… if wedding tailors were to get married, would they make their own suit and dress? Perhaps we’ll let you know next time!
