Ed and Lynn’s wedding celebration was nothing short of a dream come true.
It was absolutely everything we wanted in an intimate courtyard wedding and more,
Lynn, Bride
And more it was. In the Spring of 2023, the couple celebrated their union in the cozy courtyard of Dugahun Seoul, a stunning Hanok restaurant. Sixty-five of their closest friends and family gathered to witness the celebration.

Hanok Charm
The traditional charm of the Hanok restaurant was not limited to its aesthetic. With more than half of Ed and Lynn’s wedding guests flying in from around the world, the restaurant served a modern fusion of Italian cuisine prepared with Korean ingredients. This, paired with minimalist decor that complemented the culturally rich dining venue, left a lasting impression on the guests.

What left the deepest mark though, was how wedding photographer Lorryn Smit recalled being pulled into the rhythm and ecstasy of the celebration. She witnessed the seamless coming together of Ed and Lynn’s families, all having an amazing time.
Where one would expect different cultures and language barriers to create a bit of awkwardness, there was none of that! Everyone embraced the Korean way of doing things, and for me, that’s beautiful to see,

Intimate, Warm, and Vibrant
Following their wedding celebration in Bangkok, the inspiration behind the Seoul wedding concept was simple yet profound: intimate, warm, and vibrant Korean colours. This vision came to life beautifully, with every detail reflecting their love and cultural heritage.
To Lynn, one of the most memorable aspects of the wedding was the traditional Pyebaek (tea ceremony), where her family had so much fun throwing dates and jujubes!

Warm Orange Hues
The couple also considers the wedding flowers to be their best splurge. The warm orange hues in the colour palette paid tribute to the day they first met – an autumn night in Tokyo at a bar. Lynn’s brother, hoping his sister could give his friend some good recommendations for cool spots in the city, unknowingly set up a lifelong journey for Ed and Lynn.
We can only imagine how many heartfelt words were exchanged that day.

Capturing these moments was no easy feat for Lorryn.
When it came time for the ceremony, the sun was casting half of the wedding in shadow and the other in light. There was nothing I could do about it, so the editing needed some extra love and attention. For most of the photos, I decided to shoot either into the light or in the shade, but for the wide photos of the bigger scenes and to get Lynn and Ed in the same frame, I made sure not to blow out the highlights and did the rest of the work in post-production.

Best Investment: A Good Photographer
It’s no wonder that Lynn’s advice to couples is to, “Make sure to invest in a good photographer, as what remains are photographs for a lifetime!”
And of course, we have to leave you with a few extra tips from the professional:
I would ask the planner or venue for some photos taken in the same month and time of your wedding to see how the light falls. A photographer is not a magician, so don’t rely on us solely to make the wedding look amazing. The right lighting can add a whole other layer of mood and vibe to your gallery along with the styling.

The intimate setting of Dugahun Seoul, with its perfect blend of traditional charm and modern elegance, provided the ideal backdrop for their special day. From the thoughtful fusion cuisine to the vibrant colours and the heartfelt moments captured, every detail came together to create an unforgettable experience for everyone involved.
Their story reminds us that with careful planning, a touch of creativity, and the right people by our side, a dream wedding is possible. Here’s to a lifetime of happiness for Ed and Lynn, whose wedding was indeed everything they dreamed of and so much more!
